“A Dream, $100, and a No. 10 can of beans”
Here at St. Vincent's we are dedicated to helping those less fortunate get their feet under them by providing them a place to stay and food to eat. We offer a number of services here. Among them are housing, a soup kitchen, and a thrift shop.
Just as the founding of the SVDP Society was one man's dream in the early 1800's, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Juneau was the dream and goal of a single person, Paul Paradis. For several years in the early 1980's, Paul had dreamed and talked to fellow residents of his desire to establish a SVDP Council in Juneau. With his dream, $100, and a No. 10 can of Pork and Beans his wishes were fulfilled. Paul founded the St. Vincent de Paul Diocesan Council of Southeast Alaska in his garage.
